ON THE ROAD

This week I surveyed flood damage in Harman and heard from local residents and leaders about the extensive damage to property and critical infrastructure. I’m working to make sure Harman and other impacted communities get the resources they need to rebuild and recover.

After visiting Harman, I was so proud to travel to Canaan to survey the new Visitors Center and HQ for the Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge.  This new facility will be an important asset for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and will help visitors learn about what makes our state so wild and wonderful. As a Member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I'm pleased to have worked with Secretary Bernhardt and Senator Capito to secure funding for this facility.

The celebration at the future Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge Visitors Center would not have been possible without the dedicated USFWS employees that take so much pride in promoting our outdoor heritage and protecting our wildlife. Thank you for all you do!

Aaron Scheinberg, Veterans Legislative Assistant and Iraq War—Army Veteran, met with members of the American Legion Department of West Virginia 101st State Convention in Huntington. He joined them to honor WWII Veteran, J.D. Stanard, who celebrated his 101st Birthday.

Regional Coordinator Keith McIntosh attended the grand opening of Ortega's Taco Shop in Charles Town. Since 2013 when the first restaurant opened in Ranson, Ortega’s has become a local favorite by bringing West Coast influences and flavors to the Mountain State.

Senior Regional Coordinator, Mike Browning, attended the United Way of the River Cities' Prevention Empowerment Partnership Drug Prevention Summit on my behalf. I appreciate Carol Bailey and United Way of the River Cities team, and everyone who plays a role in the battle against addiction each and every day.

Brandon Myers, from Morgantown, contacted our office requesting help with his federal disability retirement claim that was pending with the Office of Personnel Management (OPM).  He had been on leave without pay for over a year and made a request to our office to help with expediting his claim.  As a result of Caseworker Gerrie Greene's inquiry, Mr. Myers was approved for his federal disability retirement.
