I was always taught that if you can count your blessings, you can share your blessings. It's my privilege to share some inspirational stories from those on the ground who are donating their time and energy to helping their fellow West Virginians. These are just a few of the countless acts of kindness happening in our state every single day. Share your stories or recommend someone to be recognized for being WV Strong by emailing WVSTRONG@manchin.senate.gov.
Through a partnership with Volunteer West Virginia, Community Connections, Inc. is purchasing and installing 14 Blessing Boxes throughout Mercer County and one in Summers County. These boxes are filled with nonperishable food items and the motto is: “Take what you need, Give what you can.”
These boxes are opportunities to donate free books, resource information, or (now, in some cases) shelf-stable foods - canned goods and snacks etc. for families in need.
In Mercer County, Grants Supermarket has donated shelf-stable foods for all boxes and The Sign Shop donated the metal signs on the front of the boxes. Through the generosity of volunteers, faith-based organizations, civic groups, collegiate groups, first responders and law enforcement, and local leaders, Community Connections Inc. will keep these boxes stocked with food products.
