WV STRONG

I was always taught that if you can count your blessings, you can share your blessings. It's my privilege to share some inspirational stories from those on the ground who are donating their time and energy to helping their fellow West Virginians. These are just a few of the countless acts of kindness happening in our state every single day. Share your stories or recommend someone to be recognized for being WV Strong by emailing WVSTRONG@manchin.senate.gov.

Nominated as today’s Better Angels are Wendy Smith and Jo Windle, the owners and operators of Quilting in Sleepy Creek in Martinsburg. These ladies have been working hard to produce and donate masks for those on the front lines.

Your work has been making a world of difference to those who rely on these supplies to keep us all safe and healthy. Thank you and keep up the great work.

Please continue sharing your stories of hope, volunteerism, and bravery with me at wvstrong@manchin.senate.gov .

WORKING FOR YOU

MANCHIN, CAPITO APPLAUD $6 MILLION FROM ARC FOR WEST VIRGINIA SMALL BUSINESSES AFFECTED BY COVID-19 PANDEMIC

Charleston, WV – Today, U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, applauded the allocation of $6 million from the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) to support small businesses impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Our small businesses are vital to our communities and the state economy, and right now Main Street needs help. As West Virginia’s small businesses continue to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, we must do everything possible to support them during their time of need,” said Senator Manchin. “On May 22nd, I wrote to ARC advocating for the approval of the West Virginia applications, and I am pleased ARC has approved these investments in economic development organizations across the Mountain State which will support small businesses who have been hit hard by this global health crisis. This fight is far from over and as Congress works on another COVID-19 relief package, I will keep fighting for rural states like West Virginia to get the support we need for our healthcare providers and small businesses as we continue to respond to this pandemic.”

MANCHIN APPLAUDS FCC APPROVAL OF CHARLESTON AREA MEDICAL CENTER TELEHEALTH PROGRAM APPLICATION

Charleston, WV – Today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) applauded the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) approval of Charleston Area Medical Center’s application for $781,964 to procure remote monitoring devices, remote patient monitoring platform, network upgrades, and a telehealth platform to improve the outpatient telehealth platform as well as develop a telehealth service to assist rural West Virginia hospitals and patients by giving specialists a method to connect to other hospitals to provide treatment via telemedicine. As a member of the Financial Services & General Government (FSGG) Appropriations Subcommittee, which oversees the FCC’s budget, Senator Manchin helped support $200 million in funding for the telehealth pilot program through the CARES Act.

“All across West Virginia our healthcare providers, first responders, and West Virginians have adjusted to a new way of receiving and giving care due to the COVID-19 pandemic including expanded telehealth services,” Senator Manchin said. “On June 19th, I wrote to the FCC to advocate for the Charleston Area Medical Center application for funding to provide West Virginians with telehealth services, and today the FCC approved their application. This is great news for Charleston area residents and will provide West Virginians and our healthcare providers with the systems they need to receive and give the care they deserve. I will keep advocating for funding that helps our providers, first responders, and front line workers respond to the COVID-19 pandemic and care for their fellow West Virginians as this crisis continues.”

MANCHIN INTRODUCES RESOLUTION SUPPORTING USPS, PRESSES FOR MORE FUNDING TO OFFSET COVID-19 LOSSES

Charleston, WV – U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) led 43 Senators in introducing a resolution supporting the United States Postal Service (USPS) and advocating for more USPS funding in future COVID-19 relief packages.

“The U.S. Postal Service is a vital federal agency that ensures all Americans can utilize the mailing system that many of us take for granted. In rural states like West Virginia, the USPS services are even more important because they provide everyone access to their letters, packages, and more, no matter where they live in our state. I am proud to introduce this resolution in support of the Postal Service and will advocate for more funding to assist their essential work in the next COVID-19 funding package, along with other West Virginia priorities,” said Senator Manchin.

TESTING

Where can I get a test? This is a question my office has received since the beginning of this pandemic. Please note that this is not a comprehensive list; there may be more testing sites out there that are added daily.  In order to provide as much reliable information as possible, I am including testing sites that are verified through an official communication or news release.

For any organizations or health care organizations who would like their site listed, or who have updates on their hours or requirements, please email me at common_sense@manchin.senate.gov .

It is recommended that you seek testing only when you begin exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19. Click here to view the screening criteria. To report your symptoms and be directed to one of the available testing sites, contact your primary care doctor or a designated hotline for your area. Most, if not all, sites require a physician's order before testing. If you have gone through these steps and are still having issues getting a test, please email me at common_sense@manchin.senate.gov and a member of my staff will reach out to you to see if we can assist.
