WV STRONG

I was always taught that if you can count your blessings, you can share your blessings. It's my privilege to share some inspirational stories from those on the ground who are donating their time and energy to helping their fellow West Virginians. These are just a few of the countless acts of kindness happening in our state every single day. Share your stories or recommend someone to be recognized for being WV Strong by emailing WVSTRONG@manchin.senate.gov.

The team at Robert’s Running and Walking Shop in Huntington were nominated as Better Angels for their generous donation of hundreds of sticks of face balm to the frontline medical workers at Marshall Health, Cabell-Huntington Hospital, and St. Mary’s Hospital to help with the irritation that comes with wearing masks all day. Thank you for showing your appreciation to those who are working hard to keep us safe and healthy.

WORKING FOR YOU

MANCHIN, CAPITO ANNOUNCE MORE THAN $5.5 MILLION FOR HEALTH CENTERS ACROSS WEST VIRGINIA

Charleston, WV – U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $5,568,607 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) health center cluster grant program. This funding will provide support and resources for health centers across West Virginia.

“Our community health centers are the backbone of our healthcare system in West Virginia. Rural health centers and providers face no shortage of challenges and the COVID-19 pandemic has only made the services they provide even more essential. We must continue investing in rural health and I am pleased to see this funding awarded to healthcare providers across our state,” Senator Manchin said.

TESTING

Where can I get a test? This is a question my office has received since the beginning of this pandemic. Please note that this is not a comprehensive list; there may be more testing sites out there that are added daily.  In order to provide as much reliable information as possible, I am including testing sites that are verified through an official communication or news release.

For any organizations or health care organizations who would like their site listed, or who have updates on their hours or requirements, please email me at common_sense@manchin.senate.gov .

It is recommended that you seek testing only when you begin exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19. Click here to view the screening criteria. To report your symptoms and be directed to one of the available testing sites, contact your primary care doctor or a designated hotline for your area. Most, if not all, sites require a physician's order before testing. If you have gone through these steps and are still having issues getting a test, please email me at common_sense@manchin.senate.gov and a member of my staff will reach out to you to see if we can assist.

IRS UPDATES

The IRS will soon send catch-up Economic Impact Payment checks to about 50,000 individuals whose portion of the EIP was diverted to pay their spouse’s past-due child support.

These catch-up payments are due to be issued in early-to-mid-September. They will be mailed as checks to any eligible spouse who submitted Form 8379, Injured Spouse Allocation, along with their 2019 federal income tax return, or in some cases, their 2018 return. These spouses do not need to take any action to get their money.

The IRS is aware that some individuals did not file a Form 8379, Injured Spouse Allocation, and did not receive their portion of the EIP. These individuals also do not need to take any action and do not need to submit a Form 8379. The IRS does not yet have a timeframe but will automatically issue the portion of the EIP that was applied to the other spouse’s debt.

Affected taxpayers can check the status of their Payment by using the Get My Payment tool, available only on IRS.gov.

For more information, see the Receiving My Payment section of the Frequently Asked Questions in the Economic Payment Information Center on IRS.gov.
