The deadline to respond is now September 30, 2020.

If we don’t respond to the Census, we will miss out on important federal funds that make our communities stronger. Every person in West Virginia that does not respond to the Census equates to $20,000 lost in federal funds for West Virginia and our communities over the next ten years. If 100 people do not respond, that's $2 MILLION lost in federal funds to West Virginia over the next ten years. We simply can’t afford that. The sad fact is that many places in West Virginia simply do not have access to reliable broadband and the lack of access affects West Virginians every day. Back in 2015, the FCC released a coverage map that stated 99.9% of Americans had wireless coverage. I knew then what I know now: That is just plain wrong.

That’s why I’m asking all West Virginians to submit your internet speed-tests, so we can prove to the FCC that our broadband coverage is well below the stated coverage. So far, your efforts have helped the FCC acknowledge that our providers are overstating their coverage, but we must continue to show where and how widespread the lack of broadband coverage is in West Virginia.

Ms. Monte contacted Senator Manchin because her Social Security Disability was denied; however, she did not receive notification to appeal in a timely manner due to COVID-19 closures. Due to the Senator’s inquiry, Ms. Monte received notification that she would be given time to be able to file her appeal, if she wishes.

Manchin Presses Postmaster General DeJoy On Delivery Delays Impacting Small Businesses

U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) led 25 Senators in pressing U.S. Postmaster General DeJoy on the recent U.S. Postal Service (USPS) delays that have harmed small businesses in West Virginia and across America.

USPS is the “carrier of choice” for small businesses that have fewer than 10 employees, which are among the most vulnerable small businesses. According to a 2019 report, 70% of these vulnerable businesses regularly rely on the Postal Service, the majority of which use the service more frequently than other carriers. In the four months since DeJoy became Postmaster General, he has taken actions that have compromised mail service for all Americans, especially Veterans, seniors, and West Virginians in rural communities, and has presented yet another challenge for small businesses struggling to survive during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Manchin Announces $768K For Rural Energy Projects Across West Virginia

U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced $768,762 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) for rural energy projects across West Virginia.

“Investing in rural energy projects is essential to boosting West Virginia’s economy while supporting small businesses across the state with innovative technology. These awards will help businesses with projects including installing solar panels, energy efficient heating and cooling systems, and water recycling equipment. I look forward to seeing the positive impacts of these investments into our state and will continue to fight in Washington for funding that supports our rural communities and businesses,” said Senator Manchin.

Manchin, Capito Announce Domestic Violence Prevention Grant In West Virginia

U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced $91,274 for the West Virginia Coalition Against Domestic Violence Inc. in Elkview, West Virginia. This funding was made available through the State and Territorial Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Coalitions Program and will help provide assistance and support projects that work to combat domestic violence and abuse in West Virginia.

Manchin, Capito Announce More Than $7.3 Million For West Virginia Community Recovery Efforts

U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced $7,324,585 for communities across West Virginia to prevent, prepare for, and respond to the coronavirus (COVID-19). This funding is made available through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program, which received additional funding in the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act).

“Every West Virginian has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and many of our friends and neighbors need help during these difficult times. This funding will help ensure every West Virginian has a roof over their head and a place to sleep, and I will continue fighting for funding that supports our fellow West Virginians who have been hit hardest by this pandemic,” said Senator Manchin.

Manchin Statement On Partisan COVID-19 Relief Package

“If I hadn't held out the last time Mitch McConnell tried to ram through a COVID bill, West Virginia wouldn't have $1.25 billion in state and local funding. The easy thing to do would be to vote "yes," but the right thing to do is to put politics aside and do our job. With today’s partisan vote failing, I am hopeful we can immediately come together to pass a bill that helps the West Virginians who need it like we did six months ago on March 27th.”

Manchin Applauds $20 Million Investment In West Virginia Bridges

Today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) applauded the $20 million investment into 19 West Virginia bridges by the U.S. Department of Transportation. This funding will directly impact Harrison, Marion, and Monongalia counties. On May 28, 2020, Senator Manchin urged U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao to support these investments.

Manchin Calls On House To Pass Veterans Mental Health Legislation

Yesterday, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), member of the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee (SVAC), called on the U.S. House of Representatives to pass the Commander John Scott Hannon Veterans Mental Health Improvement Act (S. 785) which he introduced on March 13th, 2019 and was passed by the Senate on August 5th, 2020. Senator Manchin pressed for actions to address the high rate of Veteran suicide in West Virginia and across America. Senator Manchin also sent a letter to Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi urging the passage of this legislation.

Manchin, Capito Announce $650,000 For Brownfield Site Cleanup in West Virginia

U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $650,000 from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for two Brownfield site locations in West Virginia. This funding will characterize, assess, and conduct cleanup of property that may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of hazardous substances, pollutants, or contaminants.

Manchin Introduces Bill To Protect Postal Service From Partisan Politics

U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV), Gary Peters (D-MI), Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), and Tom Carper (D-DE) introduced legislation that would ensure that the U.S. Postal Service remains nonpartisan and nonpolitical so that it can continue to effectively serve as a critical lifeline for seniors, Veterans, small businesses, and rural communities across America. The Postal Service is the only carrier that delivers to every address in the country – ensuring millions of Americans receive their prescriptions, critical supplies, business mail, and more.

Where can I get a test? This is a question my office has received since the beginning of this pandemic. Please note that this is not a comprehensive list; there may be more testing sites out there that are added daily. In order to provide as much reliable information as possible, I am including testing sites that are verified through an official communication or news release.

For any organizations or health care organizations who would like their site listed, or who have updates on their hours or requirements, please email me at common_sense@manchin.senate.gov .

It is recommended that you seek testing only when you begin exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19. Click here to view the screening criteria. To report your symptoms and be directed to one of the available testing sites, contact your primary care doctor or a designated hotline for your area. Most, if not all, sites require a physician's order before testing.
