The COVID-19 pandemic has changed every aspect of our daily lives, including how Americans and West Virginians will be able to vote this year. The 2020 election is quickly approaching and West Virginians need access to accurate, reliable information on how to vote during these unprecedented times.  I launched a voting resource page that compiles accurate facts on how to register to vote, polling locations, requesting an absentee ballot and more. Every eligible West Virginian should exercise their right to vote and have their voice heard this fall.

The sad fact is that many places in West Virginia simply do not have access to reliable broadband and the lack of access affects West Virginians every day. Back in 2015, the FCC released a coverage map that stated 99.9% of Americans had wireless coverage. I knew then what I know now: That is just plain wrong.

Mr. Bob Brown of Charleston, a 100% service-connected Veteran, contacted the Senator for assistance with obtaining payment for non-VA medical care at CAMC.  Caseworker Kim Berry submitted a congressional inquiry and discovered that the VA needed an Explanation of Benefits showing what Medicare paid.  Once the VA received that information, 21 billing claims were paid and another 15 are in the process of being paid.

MANCHIN VOTES EARLY IN FAIRMONT, ENCOURAGES WEST VIRGINIANS TO VOTE

Fairmont, WV – Today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) voted in person at the Marion County Courthouse Annex and encouraged West Virginians to vote.

“Today I exercised my right to vote by voting early and in person in Fairmont, where I vote in every election. Early voting is open through Saturday and if you are unable to vote early, make sure to vote on November 3rd because everyone should have their voice heard. West Virginians can find more election information here."

 

MANCHIN WELCOMES WEST VIRGINIA NATIONAL GUARD 157TH MILITARY POLICE COMPANY HOME
Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) welcomed the 157th Military Police Company of the West Virginia Army National Guard safely home.

"On behalf of all West Virginians, I’m proud to welcome home our National Guardsmen who have served our nation honorably. When I served as Governor of West Virginia, my greatest honor was serving as Commander in Chief of the best National Guard in the nation. West Virginia’s National Guard has helped keep America safe for generations, and these soldiers carry on that legacy. I’m thankful our troops have returned home safely and we are forever grateful for the sacrifices they, and their loved ones, have made to keep our country safe. Welcome home," said Senator Manchin.

 

MANCHIN VOTES AGAINST SUPREME COURT NOMINEE PROCESS
Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) released the following statement on his vote against the rushed confirmation of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to fill the vacancy on the Supreme Court of the United States.

"Today the Senate took unprecedented action never before seen in the 240 year history of our country, but it didn’t have to be this way. Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans chose a dangerous, partisan path to push through the confirmation of Judge Amy Coney Barrett eight days before this year’s November 3rd election further politicizing the highest court in the land. The facts are clear—never before has the president nominated and the Senate confirmed a Supreme Court justice between July and Election Day in a presidential election year.

"This degradation of Senate norms and procedures didn’t start with the confirmation of Judge Amy Coney Barrett and it won’t end here. The U.S. Senate is supposed to be the greatest deliberative body in the world and perhaps we used to be. But each time a Senate majority – regardless of party – changes the rules, we reduce the incentive to work together across party lines. Instead, the partisan governing of the last ten years and the rushed nomination of Judge Barrett only fans the flames of division at a time when Americans are deeply divided. Judge Barrett’s nomination and the confirmation process are far from business as usual. I cannot support the nomination of Judge Barrett to the Supreme Court of the United States on the eve of a Presidential election. It is simple - this nomination should have waited until after the election.”

United Way of West Virginia provides an important service to West Virginians by helping users navigate the vast number of resources available to aid with healthcare issues, food shortages, mental health questions and more. This program is more important now than ever as we battle the COVID-19 pandemic and I commend United Way for continuing to serve their fellow West Virginians through this time.

Advantage Valley Announces Three FASTER WV Entrepreneurship Webinars

Advantage Valley announces three upcoming FASTER WV Entrepreneurship Webinars for people interested in starting or expanding a business. There will be a webinar on November 17 to learn more about the business coaching, business training, and loan funds associated with the FASTER WV program. Anyone with a manufacturing idea may be interested in the FASTER WV Small Manufacturing webinar on November 5. The final webinar of the year will be held on December 9 for anyone interested in opening or expanding a child care business. Each webinar begins at 6 pm, is free, will last one hour, and will include panelist presentations and Q&A.

IRS Update on $500 per child payments for federal beneficiaries

As part of an effort to help people who were unable to provide their information in time to receive Economic Impact Payments for their qualifying children, the Internal Revenue Service announced today that federal beneficiaries who didn’t register to receive $500 per child payments earlier this year now have additional time.

Following recent IRS programming updates, anyone who registers using the Non-Filers: Enter Info Here before the 3 p.m. Eastern Nov. 21 extended due date will receive an EIP, if eligible. This includes federal beneficiaries who already received an EIP but did not receive a supplemental $500 payment for qualifying children.
