MANCHIN ANNOUNCES MORE THAN $2 MILLION FROM AMERICAN RESCUE PLAN FOR HOUSING ASSISTANCE IN WEST VIRGINIA

Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) announced $2,066,772 in Emergency Housing Vouchers to public housing authorities in West Virginia. The awards are funded through the American Rescue Plan and distributed through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

“The economic uncertainty from the COVID-19 pandemic has led to many West Virginians experiencing or at risk of experiencing homelessness. The American Rescue Plan is helping West Virginians who face the difficult choice of putting food on the table or keeping a roof over their heads,” said Senator Manchin. “I am pleased HHS is continuing to provide housing assistance using funding from the American Rescue Plan. Every West Virginian deserves a roof over their head and a warm place to sleep at night, and I won’t stop advocating for funding for those in need.”

Individual awards listed below:

Emergency Housing Vouchers (EHVs): Provides funding to public housing authorities (PHAs) assist individuals and families who are experiencing homelessness, at risk of experiencing homelessness, recently experiencing homelessness and fleeing or attempting to flee domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, stalking or human trafficking.

  • $1,080,996 – Fairmont/Morgantown Housing Authority
  • $748,812 – Charleston/Kanawha Housing Authority
  • $236,964 – Housing Authority of the City of Huntington


MANCHIN ANNOUNCES $1.3 MILLION FROM AMERICAN RESCUE PLAN TO SUPPORT COVID-19 VACCINATION EFFORTS IN WEST VIRGINIA
Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced $1,315,728 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR). This funding is from the American Rescue Plan to support COVID-19 vaccination programs and address vaccine hesitancy in West Virginia.
 
“The COVID-19 vaccines are safe, effective and continue to help West Virginia and the rest of the country begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel. When vaccines first became available, West Virginia had among the highest rates of COVID-19 vaccine distribution and administration in the nation. I am so proud of West Virginia’s efforts to provide vaccinations to every West Virginian that wants one. This funding from the American Rescue Plan will help increase vaccine confidence, support community outreach and encourage vaccinations across West Virginia. I will continue to support state and local efforts to encourage, administer and distribute COVID-19 vaccines to West Virginians to help keep ourselves and our loved ones safe,” said Senator Manchin.

MANCHIN ANNOUNCES $11.4 MILLION FROM AMERICAN RESCUE PLAN TO SUPPORT HEALTHCARE WORKFORCE, PUBLIC HEALTH CRISISS RESPONSE IN WEST VIRGINIA
Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced $11,481,577 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR). This funding is from the American Rescue Plan to support the public health crisis response and sustain the healthcare workforce in West Virginia.

“During the COVID-19 pandemic, West Virginia’s healthcare professionals and frontline workers went above and beyond the call of duty to provide quality care to their fellow West Virginians. The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of having a strong healthcare workforce, as well as effective procedures and plans in place, in case of a public health crisis. The American Rescue Plan has helped West Virginia fight and recover from the COVID-19 pandemic and now this funding will ensure we have a robust health workforce for years to come. I will continue to fight for funding to support healthcare professionals in the Mountain State and ensure West Virginia is prepared to handle any public health crisis that comes our way,” said Senator Manchin.
