I was proud to host a video call this week with 560 students from over 20 West Virginia schools interested in applying to a U.S. Service Academy.  These students are the future of West Virginia and I applaud their interest in serving our great nation.

If you or a high school student you know are interested in applying to a Service Academy, visit my website for the application and requirements or contact academy@manchin.senate.gov. The deadline for applications is October 1, 2021.

ON THE ROAD

Late last week, my staff joined the citizens of Clendenin and officials from West Virginia State University in celebrating Union Carbide’s inclusion on the National Chemical Historical Landmark list maintained by the American Chemical Society. I was proud to help celebrate this designation – the very first of its kind in our home state. Chemistry has transformed our lives throughout the years, from advancing medicine and industry to creating vital products like penicillin and plastic. I was pleased that this dedication ceremony took place in Clendenin, where this now-global industry got its start a century ago. The Kanawha Valley is known as the Chemical Valley because of the valuable resources, knowledge, and transportation systems that help bring products to the market. I firmly believe that the innovation, dedication and resiliency of this company and community has undoubtedly shaped the United States into the super power it is today.
