It was an honor to speak with members of the West Virginia National Guard in Washington last week. Please join me in thanking them for their service to our state and our country.

Toyota has announced a $73 million investment in its Buffalo, WV plant to increase hybrid transaxle production, bringing their total investment in the Buffalo plant to $533 million in the last 12 months. I applaud Toyota's commitment to growing their business in the Mountain State.

Economic Development Manager Ryan Thorn presented a video greeting from U.S. Senator Joe Manchin at the Coalfield Development ACT (Appalachian Climate Technologies) Now Coalition announcement at West Edge in the Westmoreland community of Huntington. The ACT Now Coalition represents one of sixty nationwide finalists for the U.S. Economic Development Administration’s Build Back Better Regional Challenge program.

Congratulations to Thomas Health on the reopening of their emergency department at Saint Francis Hospital in Charleston. Here in our home state the need for accessible care is vital. Their efforts have not gone unnoticed, and they’re what drive me every day to ensure our home state gets its fair share of federal funding so they can continue to provide the quality healthcare West Virginians deserve.

My friend Henry C. "Hoppy" Shores, who served 42 years as a county commissioner before he retired in 2020, died Friday at the age of 92. Hoppy loved Kanawha County, and his decades of dedicated public service will have a lasting impact on our state. Please join Gayle and I in praying for his family, friends, and his Kanawha County Commission colleagues as they mourn this incredible loss.

Mr. William Stump of Mac Arthur, WV contacted my office requesting assistance with his Black Lung benefits. Mr. Stump had filed an appeal with the Department of Labor about five times prior to contacting my office. With the help of my inquiry, the Administrative Law Judge ruled that Mr. Stump will be issued his long overdue Black Lung benefits, back-pay, and medical benefits.
