Last week I hosted a tele-town hall for Veterans who are concerned that they will lose the healthcare services they know and love at West Virginia's VA Medical Centers. I will not let the VA's proposed cuts to West Virginia Veterans' services happen on my watch.

On Memorial Day, I visited the West Virginia Veterans Memorial to pay respects to West Virginians who have given the ultimate sacrifice for the cause of freedom. Thank you to the young men and women of the Charleston Composite Squadron, Civil Air Patrol for standing guard over the memorial.

Mr. Cantley of Charleston contacted my office after his social security benefits were seized for an overpayment of benefits. After working with multiple agencies, my staff resolved his issue which "took the wait of the world off his shoulders."

With the help of my staff, I was honored to lend my voice of support for several events in the region: Helping Heroes setup at Veterans Tele-Town Hall in Wheeling; Veterans Tele-Town Hall viewing in Wheeling; grand opening of the Hazel and JW Ruby Community Sports Complex in Morgantown; All-Girls Robotics Competition in Charleston; Memorial Day celebrations with: the American Legion Post 45 in Follansbee; Vietnam Veteran Robert Blake from the American Legion in Moundsville; monument at the Marshall County Courthouse; Grave of the Unknown Soldier in McMechen; American Legion Commander in McMechen; Honor Guard at McMechen Cemetery.

Low Income Energy Assistance Programs

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resource (DHHR) is now accepting applications for the Emergency Low Income Energy Assistance Program and Low-Income Household Water Assistance Program. These federally funded programs are available to West Virginia state residents for heating, water and sewer bills.

Those interested in applying may contact their local DHHR office with questions or to request an interview to determine eligibility.
