Here in West Virginia, we are fortunate to have a proud story of history and culture. Our state's seal displays the phrase we all know and love: "Mountaineers are always free." It is a motto that symbolizes the foundation of our state and captures the strength and endurance of West Virginians that still rings true to this day.

Today we celebrate the 160th birthday of our beloved home state. West Virginia Day is a wonderful opportunity to gather together in our communities with our loved ones, friends and neighbors to remember the values that make this state so grand.

ALL-AMERICAN FLAG ACT

It is only fitting that on Flag Day, several of our U.S. senators introduced a bill that should already have been the law.

"It’s plain and simple: The United States flag, which serves as a symbol of our founding history and values, should not be made overseas. I am proud to reintroduce this common-sense legislation to require the federal government to purchase flags manufactured entirely in the United States. I encourage my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to support this bipartisan legislation to protect our symbol of American ideals and encourage American manufacturing jobs."

Manchin’s words are well-chosen. It is truly common sense for U.S. flags to be made in this country, not in some adversarial nation like China.

COMMEMORATING FLAG DAY

Flag Day

My staff traveled across the state to join our fellow West Virginians in celebrating Flag Day. This included flag presentations to the Gold Star Mothers in Charleston and the Henlawson Veterans Center, a Flag Day ceremony at the Clarksburg VA Nursing Home and a flag retirement ceremony at the Triadelphia Cabela’s hosted by the VFW, American Legion and Marine Corps League. Thank you to everyone who took the time to honor our founding history and the fundamental rights of freedom, liberty, and opportunity.

Ms. Bradley of Charleston contacted my office requesting assistance with her 2022 State Tax returns. After an inquiry from my office, her taxes were processed and released to her.

With the help of my staff, I’m honored to have lent my support for several events in the state: opening of DjM architecture in Huntington; groundbreaking ceremony and reception for Aquabanq in Hampshire County; opening of the RNCVRT Café in Ronceverte; ribbon cutting and open house for new terminal building at the Jackson County Airport in Millwood.

The Qualifying Advanced Energy Project Credit (48C) program was established by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 and expanded with a $10 billion investment under the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022. The Advanced Energy Project Credit provides a tax credit for investments in advanced energy projects, as defined in 26 USC § 48C(c)(1).
