Dear Friends,

Thanks for subscribing!

Here’s an update on flood information in the state, my PACE Act, which was recently signed by the President, and the SOAR Act, a bipartisan bill supporting school choice:

Update on Flood Information

A number of Disaster Recovery Centers have opened across the state to help survivors and their families with information on disaster assistance programs and help them apply for necessary aid.

There will be representatives from the South Carolina Emergency Management Division (SCEMD), the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and the U.S. Small Business Association available from 8AM-7PM (except for the Columbia County center) at the following locations:

Additionally, residents are encouraged to register with FEMA online at

Currently, Individual Assistance (IA) is available for individuals and households in Bamberg, Berkley, Calhoun, Charleston, Clarendon, Colleton, Dorchester, Darlington, Florence, Georgetown, Greenwood, Horry, Kershaw, Lee, Lexington, Kershaw, Orangeburg, Richland, Sumter and Williamsburg counties.

Public Assistance is available for Abbeville, Anderson, Bamberg, Berkeley, Chesterfield, Colleton, Darlington, Fairfield, Florence, Georgetown, Kershaw, Laurens, Marion, McCormick, Newberry, Richland, Saluda, and Williamsburg Counties for Public Assistance. Charleston, Clarendon, Dorchester, Horry, Lexington, Orangeburg, and Sumter Counties.

My office is also available to help residents with issues that may arise during the application process. We will do our best to update the

FEMA page

on my website as frequently as possible.

PACE Act: Signed into Law

With the PACE Act quickly signed into law, we have taken a great step forward in protecting small and mid-sized businesses from the harmful effects of Obamacare. I want to thank my House colleague Representative Brett Guthrie (R-KY) for his important work on the PACE Act, and all of our cosponsors for their support.

I am pleased we were able to stop the growth of Obamacare and block implementation of this harmful rule. I remain committed to a full repeal of the health care law, and will keep working to find solutions that put doctors and patients in charge - not the federal government.

SOAR Act

I’m proud to help introduce bipartisan legislation, the Scholarships for Opportunity and Results (SOAR) Act, to extend the school choice in our nation’s capitol through 2025.

Ensuring all of our nation’s children have access to the best education possible should not be a partisan issue, and I’m excited to launch this bipartisan effort with Senators Johnson, Feinstein and Booker to reauthorize the school choice program in Washington, DC.

The Opportunity Scholarship Program has greatly increased graduation rates and college success rates for low-income and minority families, and it is clear that school choice is working in our nation’s Capital. I will keep working to make school choice a reality across the country, through the SOAR Act, my CHOICE Act and other bills– because when parents have a choice, kids have a better chance.
