Remembering Mother Emanuel

Two years ago, on June 17th 2015, we experienced one of the greatest atrocities South Carolina has ever known. Our city and our state were left shaken and heartbroken. The horrific actions of a man filled with hate took the lives of nine parishioners.

However, in the face of evil, nine families and the congregation at Mother Emanuel taught us the power of love and forgiveness. We must honor the memory of the Emanuel 9 by working to come together, and ensure that hate does not win. Their families showed us how much better we are united, and we all need to take that to heart.

Charleston 9

It's hard to believe it has been ten years since the Charleston Sofa Super Store fire. That day we lost nine brave, selfless firefighters forever. With more than 100 years of service between them, these nine men put their lives on the line for all of us many times, and we will never forget their ultimate sacrifice. The families and friends of the Charleston 9 remain in our prayers, and their memories will live on eternally.

We Stand United

Last week, I spoke on the Senate floor about coming together as an American family following the shooting in Alexandria. You can watch my speech below:

Apprenticeships and Workforce Development

If we want to make the American dream a reality for folks across the country, especially those stuck in tough financial situations, we need to make sure they are equipped with the right skills that will make them competitive in the job market. There are six million job openings in this country right now, and 95 percent of executives surveyed in a Business Roundtable study said they are having trouble finding qualified employees.

This skills gap is real, and isn’t a Republican or Democrat issue but rather an American problem we must address head on. A great way to start chipping away at the skills gap is to develop apprenticeships and job training programs.

I talked with FOX Business

about the importance of apprenticeships and workforce development programs. If you can earn while you learn, it's a win-win!

Obamacare is Broken

Across the nation, premiums are skyrocketing and access to healthcare is plummeting. I sat down with Fox News to discuss healthcare, which you can view below:
