MANCHIN STATEMENT ON THE DEATH OF MICHAEL SCOTT DAVIS AT KANAWHA COUNTY MINE FACILITY

This afternoon I spoke with Michael Scott Davis’ mother and gave our condolences for her loss. As West Virginians, we know that our hardworking and patriotic workers put their lives on the line every day when they enter the mining facilities to help power this country, and we are deeply grateful for all they contribute. We are forever grateful for Michael Scott Davis and his work, and this is a tragic loss for West Virginia. Gayle and I send our hearts out to Michael Scott Davis’ family and loved ones, and we, like all West Virginians, will keep them in our prayers.

MANCHIN, CRAMER INTRODUCE RESOLUTION HONORING BATTLE OF THE BULGE 75TH ANNIVERSARY

It is our duty to honor and remember the ultimate sacrifices made for our freedoms by those who have fought for the United States. This resolution is the perfect way to do so while also highlighting the end of the Nazi regime and the work of the Allied nations. I look forward to passing this great resolution with my fellow colleagues.

MANCHIN, CAPITO ANNOUNCE MORE THAN $7.5 MILLION FOR WEST VIRGINIA AIRPORTS

It is crucial for all West Virginia airports to receive the proper resources and improvements needed to maintain the safety and efficiency of our airports. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue to fight for more funding for West Virginia to help continue to grow our economy by expanding and maintaining our airports

MANCHIN, CAPITO ANNOUNCE MORE THAN $1.2 MILLION FOR RURAL DEVELOPMENT AND WASTEWATER INVESTMENT ACROSS WEST VIRGINIA

Rural businesses, including the many that call West Virginia home, work incredibly hard to invest in their local communities and support the local and state economies. I am proud to see these organizations in West Virginia receive funding to continue their great work across our state. The USDA is also investing in Welch to update and expand their wastewater system which will benefit the citizens of Welch by expanding the treatment centers to access more members of the community. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue to fight for West Virginia to receive funding that benefits our communities and our people.

It is important to bring educational opportunities to West Virginia that give our hard-working residents the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills for future jobs and success in their careers. This research will help us ensure that West Virginians are prepared and equipped to enter the workforce with the digital skills necessary for today’s industries. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue to bring opportunities for all fields of study in order to improve the lives of all West Virginians.

Access to healthcare is essential to the well-being of all West Virginians and Americans. By improving our health centers, patients will receive quality, accessible healthcare across our great state. MANCHIN TO JOIN 5TH ANNUAL MOTORCYCLE RIDE FOR FALLEN SERVICE HEROES

SATURDAY, AUGUST 17

I am honored to participate once again as the Special Guest Road Captain for the Fifth Annual Ride for Fallen Service Heroes on Saturday, August 17, 2019. This year’s ride benefits the West Virginia National Guard Foundation, the families of Fallen Service Members, and the establishment of a new Gold Star monument in West Virginia.

Every year, this ride is an awe-inspiring tribute, across the beautiful rolling hills of West Virginia, to our nation’s heroes. Our Mountain State is patriotic in the truest sense – West Virginians have answered the call to service more than nearly any other state in the nation. This ride is one way to honor that extraordinary service, and it’s a profound honor to be part of it. We hope to see you there.

The round-trip motorcycle ride will travel from South Charleston to Buffalo, through Nitro and return to the WV National Guard Airbase in Charleston. Ride overview below:

9 AM: Registration at Harley-Davidson of West Virginia; 4924 MacCorkle Avenue SW, South Charleston

10 AM: Depart Harley-Davidson in South Charleston

10:45 AM: Arrive at Toyota in Buffalo for turn-around. Everyone is welcome to come wave flags to show your patriotism. You’ll find us at the traffic light.

11:15 AM: Spectators are invited to join us at the Nitro / St. Albans Bridge to cheer on the riders as they drive through. Everyone is welcome to come wave flags to show your patriotism.

12 PM: Arrive at end-point for picnic - National Guard Airbase; 1679 Coonskin Drive (Building 107 on the flight lane), Charleston

Join us for food, live entertainment, parachute demonstrations, and a static airshow. All are welcome to attend!

Partners for the ride include Senator Manchin, Harley Davidson of WV, WV National Guard, the WV Vietnam Veterans of America, Capitol City WV Chapter #5439 Harley Owners Group, Gold Star Families, WOWK, the Hershel Woody Williams Medal of Honor Foundation and the Special Forces Association WV Chapter.

ON THE ROAD

Regional Coordinator Mary Jo Guidi presented congratulations on my behalf to Donald Kirsch and Kiley Livingston of Good Shepherd Nursing Home, and Tess Guadino of The Welty Home. Good Shepherd Nursing Home and The Welty Home were among several WV organizations to receive OSHA’s approval as a Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program participant. This prestigious recognition is one of the highest honors OSHA awards to a worksite and is a true testament to its leadership and workforce. Other recipients included Sistersville Tank Works Inc., Snyder Industries Inc., and Somerville Fabricators Inc. Congratulations once again!

Regional Coordinator Mary Jo Guidi attended the 100th WV Gala Celebration of Kiwanis International at Oglebay Park last week. Congratulations again to President-Elect Daniel Vigneron, Governor-Elect Gary Stickley, Governor Sam Payne, and all Kiwanis members.

Ms. Tiffany Bowyer from Mount Hope has been suffering with multiple health issues for years and had been denied for disability even after hiring an attorney. She contacted Senator Manchin when her case was sent for a review at the hearing level. Ms. Bowyer’s disability hearing was scheduled for July 2 and on July 31st, Senior Caseworker Cris Hewett received notification that she had been approved for monthly benefits.

Social Security Phone Scam - Learn How to Protect Yourself

Social Security employees do occasionally contact people--generally those who have ongoing business with the agency--by telephone for business purposes. However, Social Security employees will never threaten a person or promise a Social Security benefit approval, or increase, in exchange for information. In those cases, the call is fraudulent and people should not engage with the caller. If a person receives these calls, he or she should report the information to the OIG Fraud Hotline at 1-800-269-0271 or online at https://oig.ssa.gov/report.

Social Security has recently worked with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the Federal Trade Commission to create a new fraud prevention placemat to help you avoid Social Security scams. You can order free copies of the placemat to use at dining venues, or to share with friends and family. The placemat is in English on one side and Spanish on the other side.
