MANCHIN ANNOUNCES SERVICE ACADEMY NOMINATIONS
Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) announced today that he will nominate 36 West Virginia students from 15 counties to the U.S. Service Academies, which include the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and the Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point. This year, Senator Manchin is providing letters of recommendation to students who are seeking Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) scholarships.
“West Virginians have a long legacy of bravely serving our country. It is my highest honor to recommend 36 of West Virginia’s finest young men and women to attend the U.S. Service Academies. After careful consideration, I am proud to recommend these young West Virginians who have demonstrated hard work and dedication to our great nation. I encourage all West Virginians to join me in congratulating these impressive students who are the future of West Virginia and the entire United States,” said Senator Manchin.
The students are from the following 15 counties: Berkeley, Cabell, Greenbrier, Hancock, Harrison, Jackson, Jefferson, Kanawha, Mercer, Monongalia, Preston, Putnam, Randolph, Taylor and Wetzel.
Senator Manchin is recommending the following students, in alphabetical order, to the Service Academies. Final admission to the Service Academies is determined by the respective Academy. Students who are offered admission will be announced individually in the coming months.

My staff read a greeting and took part in the ribbon-cutting for the new Gumbo Stop and Creole restaurant in Heritage Station in beautiful downtown Huntington.
My staff joined Charleston’s West Side community in celebrating the grand opening of Bowls and Spoons, West Virginia’s first cereal bar. I truly appreciate Andrew and Heather Palmer for working hard to make their dream a reality. I worked in small business all my life, and can attest that there is no more challenging or rewarding endeavor. I wish them the best of luck on what is sure to be a bright future!
My staff had the pleasure of joining local elected officials and Mary C. Snow Elementary School in celebrating the arrival of their new, state-of-the-art electric school bus. I appreciate Thomas Built Buses for making this initiative possible and for being committed to making their buses as safe as possible. When it comes to school buses and transporting our children, safety is the top priority. Julie of Cabell County contacted U.S. Senator Joe Manchin’s office requesting assistance with her passport application. Julie had contacted the Senator’s Office a month before her trip requesting assistance with receiving an update on her expedited passport application. Senator Manchin submitted an inquiry to the Passport Processing Center in New Orleans to notify them of the upcoming travel date. With Senator Manchin’s inquiry Julie received her passport before her trip and was able to enjoy her vacation.

MANCHIN ANNOUNCES AMERICAN RESCUE PLAN FUNDING FOR WEST VIRGINIA MINE WARS MUSEUM
Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced $24,656 from the American Rescue Plan to West Virginia Mine Wars Museum in Matewan. The funding is allocated through the Institute of Museum and Library Sciences (IMLS) and will support the museum as it recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The American Rescue Plan continues to be a lifeline for many museums struggling to keep their doors open and serve their community due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. This funding from the American Rescue Plan is great news for our entire state because the museum documents an important piece of West Virginia history while providing educational and cultural opportunities to West Virginians and tourists visiting the Mountain State. I will continue to advocate for funding to help museums and other West Virginia organizations succeed as we continue to battle the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Senator Manchin. |
