On the anniversary of September 11, 2001, we honor all of those who lost their lives on that tragic day. We also reflect on the heroism of our first responders on that day and the extraordinary bravery exhibited of the passengers on Flight 93. Below, Senator Romney reflects on the Opening Ceremonies of the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City when eight athletes carried in the American flag that was flying above the World Trade Center on that day 19 years ago:
Nearly 1/3 of Americans have indicated that they may decline a free, FDA-approved COVID-19 vaccine. During a Senate Health Committee hearing, Senator Mitt Romney spoke with the Surgeon General and NIH Director about the need for a comprehensive effort to increase Americans’ confidence in safe vaccines.

This week, the Senate failed to proceed to debate on a targeted COVID-19 relief package offered by Senate Republicans to break the legislative stalemate. Following the failed 52-47 vote on the motion to proceed, Senator Romney released the following statement:
"We have an opportunity to either take steps to build on the important provisions we passed as a part of the CARES Act or we can do nothing. This targeted relief package, while not perfect, includes many important bipartisan provisions which would secure federal unemployment benefits, restart the Paycheck Protection Program, help parents with the expenses of childcare and homeschooling, and help our schools keep kids safe. Families, businesses, and communities in Utah need assistance now, not weeks or months down the road. I’m disappointed that my colleagues on the other side of the aisle would not at the very least vote to move forward with this legislation today so we could have a debate on the merits."
Senator Romney spoke with FDA Commissioner Dr. Hahn regarding the newly released data from the 2020 National Youth Tobacco Survey (NYTS) and the latest actions taken by the FDA to curb youth e-cigarette use. He released this statement following the meeting:
"I am encouraged by the National Youth Tobacco Survey’s findings which show that 1.8 million fewer youth are using e-cigarettes this year than last. However, the reality is that we still have more than 3.6 million youth who are using e-cigarettes and the number of kids using disposable devices remains high. I discussed these concerns today in a call with FDA Commissioner Dr. Hahn, and I am encouraged that the FDA is taking ongoing steps to curb youth use, including issuing new measures to remove unauthorized vaping products from the market. However, I continue to believe that flavors should be banned from vape products and disposable e-cigarettes, and I plan to keep pushing for that action at the federal level."
Utah National Guard Sgt. Chasen Brown is a hero—having saved the lives of dozens of his fellow concertgoers with his actions at the Route 91 Harvest Festival. Senator Romney recently attended a ceremony at the Utah State Capitol where Governor Herbert awarded Sgt. Brown with the Utah Medal of Valor—the highest state award that can be given to a member of the Utah National Guard.
