Senator Tim Scott Remembers the
Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
“Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?’” – Dr. King

Charleston, SC
 – U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) released the following statement in advance of the celebration of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday:

“As we mark Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, we are reminded that even in the face of extreme adversity, one person can have a lasting, positive effect on our world.  Through his work, Dr. King challenged the status quo and diligently pressed our country to live out our founding ideals.  Today, we are better because of him and the many who stood shoulder to shoulder with him during the Civil Rights Movement.  Through his nonviolent actions, Dr. King showed us that change is possible and attainable no matter the fight.

“Dr. King’s message continues to inspire and influence generation after generation.  He continues to call on each of us to search for and bring about progress for our world.  Dr. King teaches us that with a dream and commitment, we can break down longstanding barriers, transform communities and improve the lives of our neighbors.

“As we honor Dr. King, we must recommit ourselves to improving the lives of others. Currently, more than 46 million Americans are living in poverty, and we must work together to address this through education and economic opportunity.  Like Dr. King, I believe that each of us should be able to reach our God given potential, regardless of where we start.”
