WV STRONG

I was always taught that if you can count your blessings, you can share your blessings. It's my privilege to share some inspirational stories from those on the ground who are donating their time and energy to helping their fellow West Virginians. These are just a few of the countless acts of kindness happening in our state every single day. Share your stories or recommend someone to be recognized for being WV Strong by emailing WVSTRONG@manchin.senate.gov.

I’m so very proud to recognize the team within the Mason County Library System who have done their part to ensure residents have access to masks.  In July, a few local libraries hosted drive-through events that provided masks from the United Way of River Cities. This kind of creative thinking will go a long way in making sure our citizens have what they need to stay safe and healthy. I thank each of you for your efforts.

WORKING FOR YOU

In case you missed it: MANCHIN PRESSES TREASURY FOR UPDATE ON UNRESOLVED STIMULUS PAYMENT ISSUES FOR NEARLY 6,700 WEST VIRGINIANS

Charleston, WV – Today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) pressed U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin for an update on the unresolved issues with nearly 6,700 West Virginians who have yet to receive their Economic Stimulus Payment (EIP). When the CARES Act was passed in March, the EIP was intended to provide support to those in need. Instead, thousands of West Virginians have been left without assistance during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and are in need of answers.

Senator Manchin wrote, “When Congress passed the CARES Act, we authorized a robust set of programs aimed at helping vulnerable Americans weather the new economic challenges presented by this unprecedented healthcare crisis. This included $293 billion to ensure every American, making up to $75,000 as an individual or $150,000 for married couples, would receive immediate financial assistance. While I commend you for steering the federal government’s massive effort to deliver over 159 million EIPs to impacted Americans, including 964,000 West Virginians, I remain concerned about the lack of attention that has been paid to all those who are still anxiously waiting today.”

TESTING

Where can I get a test? This is a question my office has received since the beginning of this pandemic. Please note that this is not a comprehensive list; there may be more testing sites out there that are added daily.  In order to provide as much reliable information as possible, I am including testing sites that are verified through an official communication or news release.

For any organizations or health care organizations who would like their site listed, or who have updates on their hours or requirements, please email me at common_sense@manchin.senate.gov .

It is recommended that you seek testing only when you begin exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19. Click here to view the screening criteria. To report your symptoms and be directed to one of the available testing sites, contact your primary care doctor or a designated hotline for your area. Most, if not all, sites require a physician's order before testing. If you have gone through these steps and are still having issues getting a test, please email me at common_sense@manchin.senate.gov and a member of my staff will reach out to you to see if we can assist.

IRS: Updated FAQs

EIP Cards

Q48. Why have I received a letter indicating I haven’t activated a debit card for my Economic Impact Payment? (added August 18, 2020)

A48. Taxpayers who were mailed a debit card for their EIP but haven’t activated it yet were sent a letter in July reminding them that they can activate it or obtain a free replacement card if needed.

The EIP cards were originally mailed in late May to about 4 million people. The EIP cards were issued by MetaBank®, N.A. and came in a plain envelope from Money Network Cardholder Services. For the reminder mailing, the Treasury Department logo will be visible on the envelope and letter.

Non-Filers Tool

Q52. Who should use the Non-Filers tool by September 30 to receive a $500 per child payment? (added August 18, 2020)

A52. The IRS reopened registration only for individuals who receive SS, SSI, RRB or VA benefits, but who did not receive $500 per child earlier this year when they received their own Economic Impact Payment. [See full FAQ for important details!]

Social Security, Railroad Retirement and Department of Veteran Affairs benefit recipients

Q62. I did not file a tax return or use the Non-Filers tool to provide information about my qualifying child and did not receive the $500 per child payments earlier this year. I received my Economic Impact Payment automatically. Should I use the Non-Filers tool by Sept. 30 to provide that information? (added August 18, 2020)

A62. Yes. The IRS reopened the registration period only for federal beneficiaries who didn't receive $500 per child payments earlier this year.

Q63. What should I do if I’m a federal benefits recipient who already used the Non-Filers tool to provide information about my qualifying child but did not receive the $500 per child payments earlier this year when I received my Economic Impact Payment? (added August 18, 2020)

A63. No action is needed. Recipients of Social Security, SSI, Department of Veterans Affairs and Railroad Retirement benefits who used the Non-Filers tool May 5 through August 15 to provide information on qualifying children do not need to do anything else. The IRS will automatically issue the catch-up payment in October.
