I had the opportunity to meet with Azeem Khan, founder of the Mountaineer Fentanyl Education Task Force. I am proud that Azeem & West Virginia University students are taking the initiative to educate their peers about the dangers of fentanyl — potentially saving lives!

Mr. Smith of Philippi contacted my office for assistance with the National Personnel Records Center. He was trying to obtain a copy of his father’s DD214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty), but there had been a long wait. As a result of an inquiry from my staff, an official DD214 for his father was provided to Mr. Smith.

SBA DISASTER ASSISTANCE

Those affected by severe storms and flooding on May 6th are eligible to apply for low-interest disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration. Businesses and residents in Cabell, Lincoln, Mason, Putnam and Wayne County in West Virginia; and Gallia and Lawrence in Ohio are encouraged to apply. Applications for physical damage close on Nov 14th and economic injury on June 15th.

FOSSI SCHOLARSHIP

FOSSI has awarded 295 exceptional high-school seniors $40,000 scholarships to pursue preferred STEM degrees at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Graduating high school seniors are eligible to apply. Questions can be directed to FOSSI@americanchemistry.com. SENATE YOUTH PROGRAM

The United States Senate Youth Program annually brings the highest-level officials from each branch of government to meet two high school juniors or seniors from each of the fifty states, the District of Columbia and the Department of Defense Education Activity for an intensive week-long education and leadership program. USSYP Washington Week is March 4-11, 2023.
