Following the passage of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, Senator Rick Scott released a CARES Act Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document with information on how Floridians can get help amid the Coronavirus crisis and details about the support available to small businesses, individuals, non-profits.

See the FAQ document HERE and more on how Senator Rick Scott is working to end the Coronavirus and keep families safe and healthy HERE

Also this week, Senator Rick Scott wrote an op-ed for the Orlando Sentinel and Sun Sentinel on steps every American can take to help our country end the spread of the Coronavirus and get back to normal.

In the op-ed, Senator Rick Scott wrote, “America needs a plan for reopening our economy as soon as possible in areas where it’s safe to do so. These decisions should absolutely be guided by our public health officials who are closely tracking the situation on the ground in our communities. But it is essential that in the face of this crisis and trauma, we also protect and preserve our economic future and our way of life.…

Now that Congress has acted to help the workers and small businesses that are suffering, we need to turn our focus to getting our country back to work. I laid out a 30-day plan to stem the spread of coronavirus and start to get American families back to their normal lives.

If Americans stay home as much as possible — anyone with a fever should not be allowed to fly or go to school — and quarantine if they have tested positive for coronavirus or have come into contact with someone who has tested positive, the number of new cases will drop. That is the key to getting back to normal.

We need to maintain good social distancing practices and continue to ramp up our testing capacity. We need to make sure our doctors, nurses, first responders and all the health care professionals on the front lines — the true American heroes — have all the resources they need and don’t get overwhelmed because of the stupidity of individuals who think their fun is more important than the country’s health.

If we, as a country, take these steps, we can put this crisis behind us and begin planning to open our shuttered businesses. We need to start thinking about how and when the American people will feel comfortable enough to fly again, to eat at our favorite restaurants, exercise at our gyms, enjoy buttered popcorn at our local movie theater and visit Disney World.…

We can and we will get through this. Let’s all start working on a path to get American families back to their normal lives.”

Sen. Rick Scott Urges States to Act to Provide Much-Needed Financial Relief

As many payments are due for families across the nation, Senator Rick Scott released the below statement calling on all states to take action to provide financial relief to individuals and small businesses that are struggling because of the Coronavirus.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Right now, so many across our nation are struggling to pay their rent, mortgage and other financial obligations. Congress passed a moratorium on evictions, which will provide much-needed relief and peace of mind for many Americans. I’m calling on all governors in the nation to do everything they can to implement moratoriums on financial payments, including rent, mortgages, credit card payments, taxes, and utilities. I thank the many governors that have taken action to prevent evictions and foreclosures in their states. But we have to go even further to provide much-needed relief for Americans – and we have to do it today.” Read more HERE.

Sen. Rick Scott Calls for Investigation of WHO’s Role in Helping Communist China Cover Up Global Pandemic

Senator Rick Scott released the below statement calling on Congress to hold a hearing and investigate the World Health Organization’s (WHO) role in helping Communist China cover up information regarding the threat of the Coronavirus. In February, Senator Scott called on the WHO to do its own in-depth analysis on the extent of the Coronavirus – which they haven’t done.

Senator Rick Scott said, “The mission of the WHO is to get public health information to the world so every country can make the best decisions to keep their citizens safe. When it comes to Coronavirus, the WHO failed. They need to be held accountable for their role in promoting misinformation and helping Communist China cover up a global pandemic. We know Communist China is lying about how many cases and deaths they have, what they knew and when they knew it – and the WHO never bothered to investigate further. Their inaction cost lives. As soon as Congress is back in session, there should be a hearing, along with a full investigation, to review whether American taxpayers should continue to spend millions of dollars every year to fund an organization that willfully parroted propaganda from the Chinese Communist Party.” Read more HERE.

Sen. Rick Scott: All Passengers on Zaandam Ship Must be Tested and Quarantined

Senator Rick Scott released the below statement calling for measures to protect passengers and Floridians ahead of the Zaandam cruise ship’s expected arrival to Port Everglades in Florida. The ship reportedly contains over 100 sick passengers and several deaths have occurred on board.

Senator Rick Scott said, “This situation is absolutely horrific, and your heart goes out to all of those on board. We need to make sure everyone on this ship is cared for without spreading the virus further, and that we are doing everything we can to protect Floridians. If this ship docks in Florida, the federal government must coordinate with the state to make sure that every single passenger on board gets tested for Coronavirus. The ship must be held in port while everyone is tested, and all passengers must be quarantined for 14 days, even if they are not currently showing symptoms. The federal government and the state must also coordinate to determine which hospitals will be designated for those that require immediate attention. We have to ensure the sick are getting properly treated, but we can’t take any chances.” Read more HERE.

Sen. Rick Scott to SEC: Exclude Chinese-Based Companies from Coronavirus-Related Regulatory Relief

Senator Rick Scott sent a letter to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chairman urging the SEC to exclude Chinese-based companies trading publicly on U.S. stock exchanges from eligibility for SEC filing extensions due to impacts of the Coronavirus. Since Communist China claims to have solved the virus in their country, these companies do not need, and should not be seeking, leniency from the U.S. Government.
